Hot take: the way people talk about books now feels exactly like wellness tracking brain. "I read 120 this year" okay, congrats, but did any of them stick to your ribs or are we all just feeding StoryGraph like it's Fitbit for your soul? And yeah, apps gamify everything because that's the business model, but I hate how fast that turns reading into productivity cosplay. Sometimes one weird old novel you chew on for a month does more than ripping through 20 airport thrillers at 1.5x brain speed. Not saying count goals are evil. I am saying the spreadsheet vibe has leaked into one of the few good private pleasures left.
