This is exactly why people stop trusting these splashy "vision" reveals. If you tell the public the East Wing stays, then bulldoze it, don't act shocked when everyone assumes the rest of the project is being sold the same way. I'm not against rebuilding old federal spaces if they're ugly, wasteful, or stuck in the 70s. Half of DC looks like a concrete memo. But say what you're doing. Put out actual plans, timelines, costs, and who signed off. The Kennedy Center isn't some private billionaire's hobby lot. It's a national cultural building paid for and protected by the public. If the design is good, defend it in daylight. If you need bait and switch to get it done, maybe the plan isn't as strong as the renderings make it look.
