Funny how every city wants the prestige of hosting some giant literary history circus, then locals get stuck with blocked streets, $9 coffee, and a thousand people name-dropping dead writers like it's the Super Bowl. I like books fine. I just don't buy that flying in a conference class to talk about 19th century novels is some civic blessing. If you're gonna take over a city for a culture event, make it for the people who live there too. Cheap tickets, public talks, school access, not just academics and donors congratulating each other in hotel bars.
