My guess? Trump talks hard on Iran because it plays well at home, but he doesn't want a new war eating up his term. The base isn't asking for another Iraq and most normal people aren't either. Hit the proxies if they hit us, sure. But getting dragged into regime change because Washington can't help itself would be the same dumb mistake with a new flag on it.
