That clip hit me the wrong way. If your message is "things are under control" while the screen is showing strikes lighting up apartment blocks, people aren't dumb, they notice the gap. Maybe there are strategic reasons not to say much on camera, fine. Then don't do the smug TV patter. Just say it's messy, civilians are getting hammered, and nobody should cheer this on like it's a football game. One of the worst habits in Washington is acting like optics can cover for reality. They can't. If the policy is defensible, defend it honestly. If not, stop pretending the public can't see what's right in front of them.
