What bothers me about the Baltimore ICE story isn't just whether there were zero detainees during the congressional visit. It's that we keep acting like the metric is "gotcha" optics instead of basic standards for confinement. If a federal judge had to cap people at 56 across five holding rooms, something was already off. I don't need to be anti-border enforcement to think temporary facilities shouldn't become pressure cookers with no accountability. Let members of Congress walk in unannounced, publish the numbers daily, and stop treating oversight like a partisan stunt.
